How Often Should You Service Your Car?
Service intervals, what happens if you skip one, and why the Queensland climate means your car may need a little extra attention.
The honest answer is: follow your logbook. Most modern cars are designed for a service every 10,000–15,000km or every 6–12 months, whichever comes first. But the details matter, and so does how you drive.
Time vs distance
Even if you barely drive, oil degrades and moisture builds up over time. A car that only does 5,000km a year still needs its scheduled time-based service. Short trips, towing, and stop-start city driving are all “severe” conditions that can shorten the ideal interval.
What the Queensland heat does
Our climate is hard on batteries, coolant and rubber components. Heat accelerates wear, so cooling-system checks and battery testing are worth doing before summer rather than after something fails.
What happens if you skip services
- Small problems go undetected until they’re expensive
- Oil breakdown increases engine wear
- Your logbook history, and resale value, takes a hit
- New-car warranty claims can be refused
We can service your car to logbook spec at your home or work, stamp the book, and flag anything that needs attention before it becomes a big bill. Book on 0467 365 395.
